Four days of art on the seafront
The Artist Promenade Festival has been a fixture of the Duhnen summer for years. The festival mile stretches along the seafront promenade – between the Strandhotel Duhnen and the Adventure Golf course, all within easy walking distance and right by the mudflats. You stroll along the promenade with the sea always in view, and something new waits around every corner.
It is open Thursday to Saturday from 11am to 10pm, and on Sunday until 9pm. That makes it easy to combine with a beach day in Duhnen: the sea in the morning, the festival in the afternoon and evening.
Two stages, no downtime
What makes the promenade festival special is the alternating set-up: two stages run in rotation, so there is almost always something on. As the curtain falls on one stage, the next act is already starting on the other. International street artists, walking acts, comedy, music and acrobatics take turns – so as you stroll there is no downtime, just a continuous stream of little shows.
More than the stage: raffle, food & children
Beyond the art there is plenty to discover. A raffle with prizes worth over €25,000 is a popular crowd-pleaser – a ticket costs just €2. Along the promenade you will find food trucks and culinary specialities from around the world.
For the youngest guests there is a dedicated children's programme with hands-on activities. Together with the beach and mudflats right next door, the festival makes an ideal half-day trip for the whole family.
The Duhnen promenade gets busy at the weekend, and parking right by the beach fills up quickly. If you prefer it relaxed, come earlier in the afternoon, secure a spot and enjoy the shift into evening, when the promenade between sea and lights is at its prettiest. From Nordseezimmer you are there in around 20 minutes – with no long journey home afterwards.
20 km from Duhnen, private bathroom, quiet residential setting. Self check-in, bookable from 1 night, no single-room surcharge – parking, Wi-Fi, visitor's tax and coffee included.

By car you are around 20 to 25 minutes from Nordseezimmer in Otterndorf to the Duhnen seafront promenade. On festival days it gets lively around the promenade – allow a little time to find parking, or use the car parks slightly back from the beach. If you like, combine the trip with a walk along the Kugelbake landmark and the beach.
Why the trip is worth it
Otterndorf sits where the Elbe meets the North Sea – quiet, maritime, with short routes into the whole region. Cuxhaven-Duhnen with its promenade is one of the most popular destinations nearby, and the Artist Promenade Festival is the perfect excuse to spend a day there. Art, sea and good food in one place – and a quiet room with a private bathroom to come back to in the evening.
